Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
